Mission - The mission of the Alcoholics Anonymous General Service Office Archives is to document permanently the work of Alcoholics Anonymous, to make the history of the organization accessible to A.A. members and other researchers, and to provide a context for understanding A.A.’s progression, principles and traditions.

Purpose of the Archives Area Committee - To explore, preserve and share the heritage and help people learn about the origins, heritage and growth of AA and Southeast Texas Area (SETA) - 67 as well, its Districts and Groups

Materials: published and unpublished materials.

Accessibility: Open to both AA members and the general public

AA and Archives origins:

AA began in 1935 in Akron, Ohio
It was the result of a meeting between Bill W., a New York stockbroker, and Dr. Bob S., an Akron surgeon
The General Service Office (GSO) Archives for Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) opened in 1975. The archives are located in New York City NY
